Some fans are upset that Asgard’s Wrath 2 is not optimized for Quest 3. Meta promises that the first visual enhancements are coming soon.
Asgard’s Wrath 2, which was released on Friday after several years in development, is one of the most ambitious VR titles of recent years. A full-fledged role-playing game with a massive world rendered on a standalone VR headset: nothing like it has ever been seen before.
But for some, that’s not enough. Over the weekend, some VR fans took to Reddit and other channels to complain that the game was not optimized for Meta Quest 3, and gave it a one-star rating in the Meta Quest Store.
Asgard’s Wrath 2 is currently bundled with Quest 3, a newer and much more powerful VR headset than Quest 2. On Quest 3, the game only benefits from a higher resolution and frame rate.
Asgard’s Wrath 2: First visual enhancements announced
According to benchmarks by Team Beef, the render resolution is 1,622 x 1,759 pixels and the default frame rate is 72 Hz (like the Quest 2 version). Meta promised 90 Hz for Quest 3 and Oculus Studios producer Michael Doran writes on Reddit that this is an issue Meta is currently tracking.
According to Team Beef, Meta’s rendering technique Application Spacewarp, which is used in Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR and can cause visual artifacts, is not used by the game.
Asgard’s Wrath 2 benchmarks! ♨️?
No one ever does benchmarks, so we have to.
So on Quest 3 it runs at 1622×1759 pixel p. eye at 72hz.

Following the online outrage, Doran announced on Saturday that “initial Quest 3 visual enhancements” are coming soon. Here’s what he wrote on Reddit:
“We heard you guys loud and clear. We are going to share more about the initial Quest 3 visual enhancements next week. They are coming very soon. More to come. That’s all I can say for now. You will have a ton of questions. Please be patient.”
More visual enhancements to follow
There’s no word yet on when the update will arrive, but Meta will hopefully announce it later this week. Doran hints that more visual improvements will follow:
“I want to be extra clear here – we’re not cramming in every possible Quest 3 visual enhancement under the sun into one immediate near-future update. That’s why I used the word “initial.” There are things that can be done pretty fast, things that are doable but will take extra time, and things that just won’t be possible. It’ll take some time to figure this all out beyond the initial set of stuff that you’ll hear about next week.”
The producer has two more pieces of good news: He says that Meta is not planning to use Application Spacewarp and that players will be able to decide for themselves whether they want to activate the visual enhancements or not.
