Arizona Sunshine remains one of the most popular VR games. After seven years, the zombie hunt finally continues.

A Story, gorgeous graphics, bursting zombie heads, and intense defense against musty hordes: Arizona Sunshine offered plenty of things that smaller VR games lacked in 2016. A sequel for Playstation VR 2 and PC VR was finally announced at the Playstation Showcase.

Arizona Sunshine 2 sends you back to the searing zombie apocalypse of Christmas 2023. The story picks up where part 1 left off. True to the name, Vertigo Games doesn’t dare to experiment with the desert setting.

New Zombie Shooter for PSVR 2 and SteamVR

A new addition to the game is Buddy the dog, who accompanies the perpetually drunk protagonist wherever he goes. He is supposed to help take care of the annoying undead “Freds”. How exactly is not yet known. Vertigo Games also advertises a thoroughly revised melee combat and a new, macabre “maiming and wounding system”.

In the announcement trailer, the wisecracking hero is already busy sticking hand grenades in zombies’ mouths, luring them to exploding gas canisters, and delivering blows with ripped-off arms. Machetes, shotguns, flamethrowers, and sniper rifles are used as well.

Whether the interiors and environments will provide as much detail in action remains to be seen. So far, the direction looks more like staged moments for the trailer than in-game scenes. We can only hope that a possible German dub will be more professional this time.

Vertigo Games mentions in the announcement that the VR game will be released “for VR platforms” in 2023. So besides the already confirmed Playstation VR 2 and SteamVR, platforms like Meta Quest 2 or Pico 4 could be added.

VR game company Vertigo Games, which was acquired by Plaion, now includes developer Force Field. The company was renamed Vertigo Games Amsterdam as part of the acquisition and will retain its independence. The former Vertigo Games team is located 50 km away in Rotterdam.
